Before leaving on a trip in the desert, check:
- Battery.
- Radiator and coolant quality and level.
Take:
- First Aid Kit.
- Flares.
- – Extra radiator coolant.
- Cooling hoses.
- Spare fan belts.
- Fire extinguisher.
- Spare tire(s), tubes and repair kits.
- Air pump and small hydraulic jack.
- Extra motor oil and check the manufacturers specifications as to SAE for hot weather.
- Extra air filters as you might want to change it every few hundred miles if it is dusty.
- Poncho.
- Set of tools.
- Spot light for night repairs or signalling.
Special Equipment for desert travel
- Shovel and axe.
- Whistle.
- Wool blanket.
- Sturdy carcover.
- Winch with a heavy rope.
- Wide tires.
- 4 quarts of water per person per day.
- Two planks to help in releasing the car from soft sand.
