Driving At Night

Problems when driving at night:

  • Lack of color that helps in differentiating different obstacles. The curb from the road.
  • Limited depth perception.
  •  The angle of vision is reduced by the limited light from the head lights.
  •  Older drivers have a lower light sensitivity in their eyes.
  •  Darkness might cause drowsiness and it is more difficult to concentrate and also reduces the reaction time.

Improve Night Time Visibility

  • Keep headlights, taillights, signal lights and windows (inside and out) clean.
  • Make sure that your headlights are properly aimed to maximize the light on the road. You have to realize that if your truck is loaded your high beams will be aiming above the road.
  •  Keep your headlights on low beams when following another car.
  •  Light your lights at dawn, dusk and during rainstorms as this will help other drivers to see you.
  • Reduce your speed at night and make sure you do not overdrive your headlights. Always consider your possible reaction time to anything that might pop up – and can you stop on time – or have a blind crash.
